insurastore.com FAQ

Unfortunately, we are unable to cover goods in this type of storage.  We can only provide insurance for goods in recognised storage facilities.

If it is a recognised storage facility and it is not already on our list, please let us know.

Our Approvals Team will have a look at the facility and try to get it added to our database / website for you.  This can take up to 5 working days once we have obtained the necessary information from the storage facility.  To speed the process up, please ask your facility to register with us on our website.

We aim to contact the storage facility within 2 working days of the request.  Unfortunately, we have no control over how quickly they reply to us but we will come back to you as soon as we hear from them.

Yes.  We offer lower rates for policies taken over longer terms, provided they are paid for as a single payment.

Unfortunately not, due to the sensitive nature of the information you must supply in order to take out a policy (e.g debit / credit card details). We accept payment by credit or debit card through a secure, reputable payment gateway, chosen due to the high level of security it offers.

Yes, we offer the option to set up regular payments, which will be taken on the same date each month (or following business day if applicable).

As soon as you have successfully paid for your insurance, you will receive email confirmation and your policy documentation will be available to download directly from the website.  We do not send hard copies out by post.

You may cancel your policy at any time after the initial minimum cover period of 28 days by selecting the ‘Cancel’ option in the ‘My Account’ section of the insurastore.com website and following the on-screen instructions. Provided you have not made a claim, you will be entitled to a refund of premium for the remainder of the period of Insurance shown in the Confirmation of Insurance minus any administration fees.

If your policy was originally taken out after March 25th 2008, you are covered for physical loss of or damage arising from fire (and/or the additional perils listed below) to home contents and personal effects (including sport equipment, boats, motorcycles, cycles and trailers) occurring during the period of Insurance shown in the Confirmation of Insurance whilst in transit within an enclosed car or commercial road vehicle:

  1. To the Self Storage Location shown on the Confirmation of Insurance from any location in the UK or
  2. From the Self Storage Location shown on the Confirmation of Insurance to any location in the UK.

The additional perils covered are:

  1. Road traffic accident where the conveying enclosed car or commercial road vehicle is also damaged and
  2. Theft where entry or exit was effected by forcible and violent means.

This insurance does not cover:

i) property relating to any business or commercial venture.
ii) loss or damage where the conveying enclosed car or commercial road vehicle was unattended.
iii) more than £10,000 or Your Sum Insured whichever is the least.

Yes, you can manage the amount of cover at any time by logging into your account and amending your policy accordingly.

No.  One policy will cover multiple units at the same storage location.  The sum insured amount on your policy should cover the value of the goods in all your units.  If however, you have a number of storage units in more than one different location, even if they are with the same storage company, you will need individual policies for each location.

Unfortunately, the policy for your original facility will not be valid for your new facility. You will need to cancel the policy relating to the original facility and take out a new policy for your new facility.  Provided you have not made a claim, you will be entitled to a refund of premium for the remainder of the period of Insurance shown in the Confirmation of Insurance minus any administration fees.

A few storage facilities have adopted a company policy of not accepting any third party insurance, so if you store with them, you have to buy their insurance.  However, our policies would be valid for any of the facilities on our database and can be significantly cheaper...…

The insurastore.com policy is above industry standard and is underwritten by Allied World Assurance Company (Europe) dac, so please rest assured, that whilst the price is lower, the quality certainly is not.

Log in to your account and once you are viewing your policy, you will be able to change the expiration date from 1 day up to 53 weeks from the time of the amendment by clicking on the "Amend" button and following the screens through.

You may extend your policy at any time by logging into your account and amending the end date of your policy. You can effectively extend your policy for anything from1 day up to 53 weeks from the time of the amendment.

Your policy has essentially lapsed and you will therefore need to take out new cover.  To do this, simply log into your account (using your existing log in details) and take out a fresh policy.

As long as you have access to the internet, you can manage your account anywhere in the world.  When you log into your account, you can download and email a copy of your policy documentation straight to your storage company.

  • In the event of loss or damage which may give rise to a claim, you must take all measures under your control to minimise any loss.
  • Check the Terms and Conditions of insurance to see if you are covered for the loss or damage. Read carefully any conditions and exclusions that may apply.
  • Select the “Make a Claim” option on the insurastore.com website and follow the on screen instructions. Full details of any losses and/or damages incurred must be notified via the website to insurastore.com within 7 days of you first being aware of any loss or damage.
  • To help us deal with your claim, you must:
  1. Not throw away any damaged items before we have had chance to inspect them.
  2. Provide us with the following information if requested:
  • Original purchase receipts, valuations, and photographs of more expensive items.
  • Provide repair estimates for any damaged items.
  • For damaged items, confirmation by a qualified expert that the item you are claiming for is damaged beyond repair.

Please note that all claims are handled by the Claims department of our Underwriters.

This will depend on the type of claim and the value involved.

Where the damage can be economically repaired, we will pay the cost of repair. Where the damage cannot be economically repaired and the damaged or lost item can be replaced, we will replace it.  If a replacement is not available, we will replace it with an item of similar quality.

Where we are unable economically to repair or to replace an item with an item of similar quality, we will agree a cash payment with you based on the replacement value.

Where we can offer repair or replacement through a preferred supplier, but instead you request and we agree to pay a cash settlement, then the amount will not normally exceed what we would have paid our preferred supplier.

In the event of the total loss or destruction of any article, we will not pay more than:

  1. the new replacement cost of any home contents and personal effects other than listed in 2. 3. and 4. below.
  2. the market value of any clothing, antiques, fine arts, boats, motorcycles, cycles and trailers.
  3. the cost of documents as new stationery.
  4. the cost of data storage media as new blank data storage media.

For business policies:

a)  The Property Covered other than listed in b) and c) below, must be valued at their cost price or market value whichever is the least.

b)  The goods contained in the category 'Office Papers & Documents' must be valued at the new stationery cost.

c)  Data storage media must be valued at the cost of new blank media.

Insurers may be able to settle the claim from the information you have given. This is why it is important to:

Insurers may need to send a member of their claims staff or a loss adjuster to find out more about your claim. A loss adjuster specialises in dealing with insurance claims. He or she will report to Insurers who will pay any fee involved.

Insurers may need to contact you for more information. Insurers claims staff take pride in their service and will do all they can to help you.

Please log in to your account and click “My Account” and then update details.
